2016-18 Capital Campaign

Preserving, Proclaiming, Preparing

Since its founding in 1908, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Montgomery, has built a legacy of inclusiveness, welcoming all to the Lord’s Table and to the love-filled worship in God’s kingdom through Jesus Christ. The 2012 Capital Campaign seeks to PRESERVE the church’s memories and legacy; PROCLAIM God’s joyful, unconditional love through ministry and mission; and PREPARE for the church’s future in this space and location, serving and welcoming all to the redeeming and grace-filled power in God’s unconditional love.

We Paved the Way!

The 2009-2012 Capital Campaign, Paving the Way, was a great success. A second mortgage allowed FCC to improve access and parking to our facility, making it possible to serve more people in more ways than ever before. That debt has been retired, and we are ready to move forward. The 2012-15 Capital Campaign: Preserving, Proclaiming, and Preparing, lifts up our current facilities for much-needed improvements as we discern God’s call for our future. The campaign goal of $275,000 is earmarked for debt reduction and for these improvements:

  • New and welcoming signage visible from the streets
  • Sheltering our family members from weather by constructing an awning at the front entrance
  • Preserving the beauty and structural integrity of the baptistery
  • Providing a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere by painting and replacing carpet
  • Adding speakers to enhance the music ministry and worship experience
  • Maintaining the physical plant and addressing needs beyond those covered by the annual budget
  • Preserving

First Christian Church’s legacy began with those who founded our church in 1908. These humble pioneers preserved the ministry and carried it forward through tent revivals and by meeting in members’ homes and, eventually, in our downtown church. The legacy continued as members made the visionary decision to buy property on Taylor Road. Today, we stand on the shoulders of those who carved pathways of love for this ministry, enabling us to reach others, proclaim God’s grace, and grow. By preserving our space, we honor those who made it possible to be in this space, and we work toward facilitating future growth and service to others.

Through ministry and mission, we proclaim God’s joyful, unconditional love to our church family members, to our visitors, and to all who are touched by the mission and outreach programs of First Christian Church. Since beginning the 2009 Paving the Way Capital Campaign, the ministry and mission of FCC have grown in these ways:

  • Added a Young Adult Ministry with 16 new members.
  • Added 37 new ministry partners to our church family.
  • Expanded the Love Your Neighbor food ministry to include clothing, serving more than 10,000 bags of food during the last three years and providing nourishment for 130 families monthly.
  • Began the Disciples Door to Door ministry, visiting area nursing homes monthly and touching the lives of more than 1200 people.
  • Provided food and shelter for more than 36 homeless families through our Family Promise ministry.
  • Provided safe car seats and other needs for 15 infants of parents who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.
  • Blessed more than 150 family pets and provided needed food and other supplies for hundreds of homeless animals at the Montgomery Humane Society through our Christians for Critters ministry.
  • Touched the lives of an estimated 250 people who have visited the church for the annual Living Last Supper presentation, Christmas Eve service, VBS, Easter Eggstravaganza, and other special events.
  • Shared God’s love with more than 2000 people through mission trips to Kenya, Daytona Beach, Nashville, and the Gulf Coast, and preparing and providing disaster relief, school supplies, hygiene kits, and Christmas gifts.
  • Preparing

We are poised for a future of growth, of building, and most importantly, of serving. The Preserving, Proclaiming, and Preparing Capital Campaign will allow us to prepare our building for ministry, mission, members, and friends to come in the next generation, while preserving our past and proclaiming God’s love to all.

Our church’s future depends on us! Please prayerfully consider your campaign pledge.
