Mission and Outreach
FCC also gives beyond our local community. Our national mission work includes hands-on mission with work trips and donations, as well as monetary support.
During Youth mission trips to Hurricane Katrina-ravaged areas of Mississippi; through Youthworks to Daytona Beach, Florida; and through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nashville, members of the H3 (Hearts & Hands for Him) Youth Group have visited and worked with nursing home residents; cleaned and painted houses; cooked meals for people in need; worked with children in day camps, daycare centers, and vacation Bible schools; worked with children and adults who have disabilities; and done building projects, yard work, and clean-up. In addition, the youth group has led drives and members of the congregation have donated toward hurricane and tornado relief kits mailed to hard-hit areas in the United States.
A tithe of the church's budget (10%) annually goes to support the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) across the nation and around the world.
We also collect six special offerings each year. The Week of Compassion offering in February supports disaster relief and refugee ministries. The Easter offering supports the work of the general units of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Pentecost offering supports New Church Ministry, which has the goal of starting 1000 new congregations by the year 2020. The Reconciliation offering supports anti-racism and pro-reconciling programs across the country. The Thanksgiving offering supports the colleges, universities, seminaries and divinity houses in relationship with the denomination. The Christmas offering supports the ministry of the Alabama-Northwest Florida Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
