Reverend Shane Isner

Rev. Shane Isner joyfully joined FCC-Montgomery in ministry around May 2016. He's excited to partner with a church whose bold commitment to the unconditional love of God is poised to keep growing, and growing...

His partner in marriage is Rev. Tabitha Isner, a brilliant, funny and strong woman with expertise in early childhood education policy and research, to go along with pastoral training. They met in seminary at the University of Chicago, got married in 2009 and since then, he's served churches while she's held jobs in consulting, a non-profit research firm, state government and private industry.

They come to Montgomery most immediately from Minneapolis, MN. Shane served there a Disciples church in the NW suburbs (Plymouth Creek Christian). Previously, he was on the staff of a large, historic Disciples congregation in downtown Lexington, KY (Central Christian). In Minnesota, he served on the boards of several community-based non-profits that provided services to low-income residents. He currently serves on the board of Christian Services for Children in Alabama (CSCA), based in Selma, chairing their Development Committee.

Tabitha and Shane are foster parents to a wonderful, lively seven year-old boy and in process of adopting that child. Therefore, when he's not on the job, Shane is frequently pretending to be The Joker in a fierce battle with Batman, or going on bike rides, or dancing exuberantly and non-rhythmically, or otherwise enjoying time with his family. He's also a deep devotee of Denver Broncos football and UK basketball. His college football allegiance is TBD...

He dreams of a church that welcomes all people, because he believes that would mirror- however incompletely- the vast and glorious love of God. Such a church has families of many colors and compositions, members of differing political persuasions, music of diverse languages and origins. Beautiful is a favorite word. He enjoys connecting with Christians who may not believe the same, but follow Jesus all the same, since that's enough, he's convinced. Likewise, he finds great passion in building relationships with non-Christian religious communities or devotees, because we're all children of God/Allah/Hashem/Ultimate Reality, and that's enough too.

And if you're reading this because you don't have a church home, but may be wondering about FCC, he wants you to know you're invited to worship. Please feel free to reach out and connect with us! We'd love to meet you, explore God's greatness together, share Christ's compassion with each other and others, and simply say, "Hi."

Until then, may you find yourself surrounded by- and so sharing- God's grace and peace.
